About

The Painted Sunflower is run by FNQ local, Karina Talbott, an experienced educator and arts-facilitator.

‘I love setting up spaces for people to create. My experiences as a Visual Arts specialist and classroom teacher have taught me so much about the therapeutic nature of the Arts. I’ve seen first-hand, the way that people can gain confidence, be challenged, be surprised, and express ideas for which they’ve previously struggled to find words.

To learn more about evidence-based arts interventions for the health of individuals and communities, I’ve recently completed a Diploma of Creative Arts and Health (University of Tasmania). I’m currently studying a Master of Guidance and Counselling (James Cook University), with a goal to offer arts-based counselling services in the near future.

Establishing ‘The Painted Sunflower’ has already allowed me to connect with many supportive people across the Tablelands. I’ve been supported by the Tablelands Regional Council (TRC), Mabel’s The Hive, Curlew Arts, as well as many friends and community members.

I look forward to creating with you soon!’
